The Captain - Galveston - Details & Rules

No-Host - Whole House Rental. It is our dream to create a family atmosphere for the enjoyment of our guests. The History of this gorgeous home: built before 1873, survivor of the Great 1900 Hurricane, originally a corner store with the owners living on the 2nd & 3rd floors and located in the East End Historical District one block off Broadway.

We are not furnished ALL FLUFFY - like a typical Bed and Breakfast, and we are not HUM-DRUM like a Holiday Inn or other Beach rental. The character of this "Old Corner Store" comes through in the old SODA FOUNTAIN BAR Kitchen, and ecclectic/antique/nautical decorations.

Two bedrooms are on the 2nd floor with two additional bedrooms on the 3rd floor. The 4th floor roof patio - is the "Talk of the neighborhood!" Then let's talk about the 2 story high garage with it's hot tub! The yard is a small wrap-a-round walk with beautiful decorations of seashells and birds. We definitely do no have a Typical Home in the Historic District!

Located 5 blocks to Steward Beach, Corner of 10th and Sealy (One block off Broadway) and 4 blocks to UTMB & Trolley to the Strand.

CHRISTMAS, NEW YEARS, BIKER-RALLEY, MARDI GRAS, & DICKENS ON THE STRAND:

Mardi Gra in GalvestonAnn Haugen and her family all decked out for DickensRENT AN HISTORIC HOME
NO-HOST

Can't find a room in town? Don't want to stay on the Beach in the Winter? Stay close to the STRAND! THE CAPTAIN is the ONLY Historic home that has Resort Rental rates. Rent the entire HOUSE for the week or weekend. Do your own cooking with our fully furnished kitchen. It is just like going to Grandma's house - but you have the place to yourself!

CORPORATE: A local Board of Directors needed a location for their out of town members to stay as well a location to hold their quarterly meetings. THE CAPTAIN was perfect. They held their meetings in the Parlor and then retired to the Hot Tub! Many UTMB Doctors have also used the house for their visiting seminars.

WEDDING: When Gail wanted a wedding on the beach in Galveston - the largest expense she was looking at was the hotel bills for all her family, wedding party, and out of town guests. And in hotels - they would be scattered ALL OVER the place. THE CAPTAIN was perfect. Each family had their own room and could share meals and family tales over the Soda Fountain Kitchen bar. There is a Wedding Chapel 2 block from the house on Broadway and we even arranged a Horse-Drawn Carriage from the house to the the Chapel!

We can arrange a catered Rehearsal Dinner and Bridesmaid Brunch at the House. We can even accommodate a small Parlor Wedding. We can also arrange transportation to the Cruise Terminal for the Honeymoon Cruise!

The Grand Princess leaving Pier 21 in GalvestonCRUISE VACATION: Phil & Judy Brice extended their Cruise Vacation by arriving 3 days early for their cruise. They stayed at THE CAPTAIN, enjoyed the Island's antique shopping and even took in a concert at the OPERA HOUSE. We arranged transportation to the Cruise Terminal for them and even held their local purchases until they returned.

FAMILY REUNION: The Lee family was having a hard time finding an intimate location to hold their reunion - and a location that would entertain the entire age scope of the family. The family was too large to descend on a member's personal home - but too small to qualify for hotel discounts. THE CAPTAIN was "Just Right". The older members enjoyed the Hot Tub and a Hot game of 42 in the garage or Bridge game at the poker table - while the BORED TEENS were off to the new indoor Schlitterbaun, Stewart Beach or the live concerts at East Beach. Grandpa - was found on the fishing jetty just 4 blocks away and Uncles Jed and Ted returned from their charter fishing trip with dinner!

CLASS REUNION: Ball High was having their 30th class reunion and 4 members wanted to bring their entire families. Since the reunion activities are usually geared to the graduate - THE CAPTAIN filled the need. While the graduates were off renewing old friendships, their families were exploring the Island, the Strand, and the taking the trolley and Duck Tour. - And all returned to share their tales and relax in the great parlor.

1st Christmas Snow in recorded History in 2004!

LADIES CHURCH RETREAT: Recently my sister's church in Ft. Worth was looking for a location that 14 of their Church Ladies could go for a retreat. THE CAPTAIN was perfect. They could study and worship in the comfort of the beautiful 2nd floor parlor, have evening vespers on the roof and share their favorite recipes in the fully furnished kitchen. The weekend was so peaceful; they have booked the Gentlemen's retreat here this fall too.

CHRISTMAS: The house is especially beautiful at Christmas. We reserve the house for ourselves for Thanksgiving weekend (or the weekend after if reserved for the holiday) and spend this entire time - DECKING THE HALLS! Our family reclaims their Christmas spirit that carries throughout the holiday season. The families that rent at Christmas get to enjoy all the festivities of Dickens on the Strand and then return to enjoy their own festivities at our home - as their parents have before them - without having to find beds for everyone!

Jorge and his 42 inch Red Fish caught right off the pier at 89th St.CHARTERED FISHING TRIPS: The men love their fishing and so do many wives. The house offers a central location for the families to stay and enjoy the Island while waiting for the Sailors to return! We have many charter affiliates that offer specials for our guests.
